Dirty Bomb Pro Guide

Tue 28th Jul 2015 - 9:34pm

Dirty Bomb is a high-intensity, teamwork oriented, fast-paced shooter. Here’s a bit of an insight into my team’s loadouts for our individual roles that have led us to success. With this guide you will gain an understanding of how we have managed to be successful in two separate ODC’s, winning the launch cup tournament, and the professional qualifier.

Nav

Sawbonez – CR73 Companion Operative

Gun: CROTZNI

Perks:

  • Potent Packs – 20% increase to health regen rate given by healing abilities
  • Mechanic – Improves any repair tools and disarm rates by 20%
  • Get Up – 50% increase to health given on revive

With this load out and the CROTZNI gun, Sawbonez can be used not only as a medic for the team but can be considered another gun on the field to frag with. If you can learn to do both it will benefit your team to not rely on the 3 main fraggers: Fragger, BushWacker, and Sniper.

Skyhammer - M92 Elite Rifleman

Gun: M4A1

Perks:

  • Guardian Angel – Receive an audio warning whenever enemy artillery or airstrikes are incoming on your position
  • Explodydendron – 10% increase to blast radius to AoE Abilities
  • Drilled – 20% reduction to reload time

On an EV objective map you could temporarily switch over from being the team medic (as there’s another medic on your team who needs to constantly be main medic and not switch over to other MERCs), to destroy the EV. Play aggressive to get as many frags as possible and, once you’ve died, switch back to medic. The Explodydendron perk with the 10% increased blast radius to AoE Abilities would definitely do the job.

Old Bud

Fragger – M62 Power Rifleman

Gun: M4A1

Perks:

  • Cool – Increase the time it takes Mounted MGs to overheat by 50%
  • Unshakeable – Reduces the damage you take from explosives by 20%
  • Explodydendron – 10% increase to blast radius to AoE Abilities

Basically with this loadout for Fragger you want to be at points where you can make major pushes because he acquires 150+ health and has nades to basically cause a lot of grief. With these perks, perfectly timed nades can cause a lot of damage and have the the benefit of insta-gibbing your opponent.

Sonnyjim

Vassili – M011 Shielded Sniper

Gun: MOA SNRP-1

Perks:

  • Spares – Increases the maximum number of magazines that can be carried by 1
  • Bomb Squad – Adds a more vivid highlight to enemy Proximity Mines and deployed explosives
  • Focus – Reduces flinching when hit while iron sighting or scoped by 50%

You want to main sniper on the majority of the maps because of the insta-gibbing. When you team is defending the sniper is basically making the job easier for everyone else, with the insta-gibbing making the opponent pushes ineffective. The sniper is a constant source of information on attack, informing the rest of the team where the majority of the players should stack, how many, etc…  This helps to quickly assess your next step of action, which could be possibly pre-nades or air strikes.

Nader – CR81 Superb Operative

Gun: CROTZNI

Perks:

  • Bigger Blast – 10% increase to blast radius to AoE weapons
  • Fail Safe – Reduces the effect taken from your own explosives by 30%
  • Quick Eye – 35% increase to movement speed when Iron Sighted

In certain points of CQC maps the sniper just isn’t needed; with the lack of visible areas and the increased amount of close combat you’d rather have a reliable weapon that can counter the corners and push in while dealing as much damage as possible. Using Nader you can really push into areas without exposing yourself or your team to possible turrets placed by opponents who are waiting for you. The best maps for Nader are Bridge & Underground.

Sparksz

Aura – BL41 Relief Operative

Gun: Blishlok

Perks:

  • Get Up – 50% increase to health given on revive
  • Double Time – Allows you to reload whilst sprinting
  • Extra Supplies – 20% cooldown reduction to support abilities

Aura can be a very powerful MERC to use when pushing. Although she doesn’t have revive packs, once she’s near an objective she can place a healing station which, in correct placements, can ensure your team maintains their health and wins situations. Pro tip: on the last stage of Chapel place it behind the rock or bus to make your push count and keep your team alive and fragging.

On some points, though, Aura just isn’t an effective MERC for pushes. Replacing her with Sawbonez when trying to gain control of certain parts of the map can ensure that you and your teammates are constantly being healed without worrying about healing stations being destroyed or placed late. Remember, one person on your team must always main the medic role, in case the other switches to a different role!

Wizard

Bushwhacker – C41 Vanguard Operative

Gun: KEK-10

Perks:

  • Focus – Reduces flinching when hit while iron sighting or scoped by 50%
  • Lock-On – Turrets, Mines and other automated defences react 30% more quickly
  • Spares – Increases the maximum number of magazines that can be carried by 1

Bushwhacker can be used to solo certain areas to also gain information. When spotted and being converged on he can have his turret crossfire with him to engage the enemies for as long as possible until his teammates can either rotate direct with him or flank. With the turret and the KEK-10 gun, this buys Bushwhacker a lot of time to solo against multiple enemies.

Skyhammer - M92 Elite Rifleman

Gun: M4A1

Perks:

  • Explodydendron – 10% increase to blast radius to AoE Abilities
  • Guardian Angel – Receive an audio warning whenever enemy artillery or airstrikes are incoming on your position
  • Drilled – 20% reduction to reload time

Wizard spends most of his time switching backwards and forth between these two MERCs to disable EV’s, but he mains Bushwhacker as the gun and turrets are be very powerful within the team if played right.

Conclusion

I hope this gives you an insight into why we choose the loadouts we do and how you can use multiple loadouts for different points in each of the maps for yourself! This is also a quick glimpse into our playstyle, which you can watch in action during our first game of the Dirty Bomb Pro Series on Saturday 1st August! Keep an eye on the Avant Gaming Facebook page and the website’s Upcoming Events section for more information on the Pro Series.
