Player Profile: Pabu
Jackson “Pabu” Pavone joined this roster towards the end of last year and has not failed to impress us ever since his arrival. Not only is he a monster in the top lane, but he’s an amazing personality both in and out of the game. We sat down with Jackson to find out more about him and how he adapts to the life of a full time competitive gamer.

Similar to last weeks piece on “Jayke”, we asked him a simple line of questioning based around a day in the life of Jackson and also to do with how he found himself in Avant Gaming. Here’s what he had to say:
- Tell us about yourself; Where are you from and what is a day like in the life of Jackson?
“I'm from the North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, lived there for most of my childhood. When I was 18, I came to Sydney to play. I wake up around 9:30, grab food on my way to the office and do my research on what's happening in the scene. We start scrims at 11 then play till we have a lunch break where I’d normally eat and/or hit the gym, then start up more scrims till we’re done, get more food and head home.”
- How do you balance your gaming life with your everyday life?
“You don’t. During the season it's very full on, so you put in a lot of hours and not have much time off. I try to see my friends at least once a week, I make sure to check up on everyone and see if everything is going well. Other than that, it's just grind.”
- How supportive are your friends and family of your gaming career? Is it tough being away from them at long periods of time?
“My friends and family are very supportive. They watch all my games and Mum talks to me regularly. I miss my dog, but yeah, I get support from both online friends and ones from home.”
- Where do you see yourself in the next couple of years? Are you looking to pursue esports for a long period of time or otherwise look at taking a step back to study?
“I have no intention to leave the scene anytime soon, I'm a very competitive person and I will try for as long as I can to better myself. In the future, I really want to improve and be the best I can.”
- Tell us about your esports journey; how did you find yourself in Avant Gaming?
“My journey has been a long one. I've been around since I was 15, and its mostly been a hobby in school. When I finished, I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I put my name out there during a trial for Top Laners and they selected me.”
- How long have you been into League of Legends? Did you play anything else prior to your journey here?
“I've been a competitive gamer all my life. I started playing Call of Duty from 8-9 years old and I was always good at it. In later my primary years, I picked up Team Fortress 2 and played a lot of that as well. Around 13-14, my sister introduced me to League of Legends.”
- What is your biggest highlight within your competitive career so far?
“Probably was when I played OCS for Abyss, the match when we qualified was against Trident, they were a better team then they had placed. I had tgun on my team, and I was proving that I was actually able to make OPL and he wanted to prove he was still worthy after having a setback. It was great feeling.”
- Do you have any advice for anyone looking to enter the esports industry?
“Always hold yourself accountable. Any failure that happens around you is a failure of your own. Nobody is perfect and even if you've reached a stage where you’re really good, you need to still take it upon yourself to help others improve”.
- How do you deal with a loss?
“Usually, after a loss, the night of is quite rough. It's filled with many different emotions, from sadness, to disappointment, to anger, but I try not to think too much of those. I just wake up the next day and pick up where I left off, and get back to work.”
- What's your biggest pet peeve in the house?
“My biggest pet peeve is waking up in the morning and knowing that at some point in the day I'm going to be in a serious work situation and have to look at Jayke's unsightly moustache.”
Pabu will be returning to the rift this coming weekend, as he looks to take on the undefeated Dire Wolves. Our last encounter saw us take a game off of Dire Wolves, but ultimately lose the series. Be sure to cheer our team on as they look to seek redemption and secure a place in the gauntlet.
